The Strohm Foundation with the support of An Garda Síochána and Kylemore Abbey launched a new range of specially captured images of the iconic Irish landmark, Kylemore Abbey. The collection aims to raise essential funds for Children’s Health Foundation, supporting their ongoing paediatric cancer research efforts.
The Strohm Foundation, an American-based charity, works alongside global police services to support fundraising initiatives for children’s cancer charities. This collaboration with Children’s Health Foundation began when Strohm Foundation member and retired Canadian Police Officer, Rob Hagarty, embarked on a photographic journey across Ireland, capturing landmarks and landscapes such as Kylemore Abbey. Inspired by the Abbey’s breathtaking scenery and its international significance, Rob decided to use his passion for photography for a good cause and sought the support of An Garda Síochána and Children’s Health Ireland to help raise awareness of this fund-raising initiative. Fionnuala O’Leary, CEO, Children’s Health Foundation, expressed her delight at the partnership, saying; "We are thrilled to partner with the Strohm Foundation on this wonderful initiative. The funds raised through the sale of these beautiful prints will directly support paediatric cancer research, helping us to improve the lives of children undergoing cancer treatment. Every contribution is a step closer to making a real difference in the lives of the little patients in Children’s Health Ireland hospitals and urgent care centres, and we are deeply grateful for the generosity of all those involved." The stunning collection of images showcases Kylemore Abbey from unique and captivating angles, highlighting the grandeur of the castle building, the meticulously restored Victorian Walled Garden, and the breathtaking neo-Gothic Church. The photographs also capture the vast, untouched beauty of the Connemara landscape, which surrounds these historic landmarks. President of The Strohm Foundation, Patricia Manzo, praised the launch, saying; "We are excited and inspired by this unique initiative. By working with the historic Kylemore Abbey, An Garda Siochana, and the world class Children’s Health Foundation, we expand our list of socially responsible collaborators, we add another police agency to the ranks of our supporters, and we bring on board another research partner in the fight against paediatric cancer." The prints will be available for purchase at the Kylemore Abbey Craft & Design Store as well as on kylemoreabbey.com. Proceeds from every sale will directly benefit Children’s Health Foundation’s ongoing efforts in the fight against paediatric cancer. STONY BROOK, N.Y., March 6, 2024 – The Stony Brook Cancer Center is proud to partner once again with our longtime friend Edward Strohm, Executive Director of The Strohm Foundation in the fight against cancer.
As the successor organization to the Three Strohm Sisters Family Foundation, this relationship dates back to 2008. The Three Strohm Sisters were early fundraisers for breast cancer research, but the organization also funded multiple projects in pursuit of the elimination of all forms of cancer. The Family Foundation gradually expanded from a locally focused, grassroots level to a non-profit organization that was internationally recognized. It was composed of and supported by a diverse body of individuals, from around the world. Edward Strohm shares “the support from The Strohm Foundation donors allows us to encourage global scientific cooperation which results in shared medical advances and lifesaving breakthroughs that benefit all human beings”. “It’s through the generosity of many supporters that has enabled us to make sizable research grants.” Stony Brook Cancer Center is grateful to be one of their many beneficiaries. Thank you to the Strohm Foundation for allowing us to continue to fund this critical research each year. Stony Brook Cancer Center is an integral part of Stony Brook Medicine, Long Island’s premier academic medical center. Stony Brook Medicine integrates and elevates all of Stony Brook University’s health-related initiatives: education, research and patient care. Stony Brook Cancer Center’s facility — the Medical and Research Translation (MART) building — was intentionally designed to bring together cancer researchers and clinical investigators in close physical proximity to effortlessly join forces in collaborating and focusing on important cancer problems. Their overall goal is to build the most comprehensive, integrated and unified team with the purpose of investigating, discovering and driving innovation in cancer treatment and prevention. Cohen Children’s Medical Center and The Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research at Northwell Health are proud to partner with the newly established Strohm Foundation to fund cancer research. The Strohm Foundation evolved from the grass roots The Three Strohm Sisters Family Foundation which primarily focused on funding breast cancer research.
The Strohm Foundation supports research into all forms of the disease at the finest institutions in the world, including Long Island’s own Northwell Health Feinstein Institutes and Cohen Children’s Medical Center. At Northwell Health, discovery is at the heart of everything they do. The steadfast focus on delivering groundbreaking medical research to further the Feinstein Institutes’ mission of curing disease and saving precious lives is in perfect alignment with the Strohm Foundation’s pursuit of a cancer-free world. Ed Strohm, the Strohm Foundation’s Executive Director, says “In keeping with our mission of funding cancer research at world class facilities, we are proud of our strong relationship with Northwell/Cohen Children’s Medical Center. We look forward to continuing our work together to build a healthier world for all.” This sentiment was echoed by Dr. Jeffrey Lipton, Chief, Hematology/Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation, adding “advancements in pediatric cancer research are made possible in large part through partnerships with foundations who understand the role research plays. I am grateful to the Strohm Foundation’s support of pediatric cancer research at The Feinstein Institutes and Cohen Children’s Medical Center. The Strohm Foundation’s commitment to supporting the brightest scientific minds across the globe matches Northwell’s efforts in growing our international recognition as a collaborative hub for discovery.” January 2024
Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity (GOSH Charity) is privileged to continue working closely with the newly established Strohm Foundation after our positive partnership with its grassroots organization, the Three Strohm Sisters Family Foundation, to fund cancer research. Paediatric cancer research is a key area of focus at GOSH Charity as we aim to transform cancer treatment and care for children and their families too. With our plans to build a brand-new Children's Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital with increased access to clinical trials, we will continue facilitating groundbreaking research into paediatric cancer to discover the cures of tomorrow. The support of the Strohm Foundation is enabling GOSH Charity to realize our collective ambitions for cancer research. "We share the Strohm Foundation's belief in research without frontiers: that the way to beat cancer is to harness the finest scientific minds across the globe, and we are honoured to be in partnership with the Foundation," says Louise Parkes, CEO, GOSH Charity. Edward J. Strohm, Executive Director, the Strohm Foundation, adds, "It is a point of pride to have added Great Ormond Street Hospital to our world-wide network of premier research facilities. The pioneering medical research we will help support at GOSH Charity will advance the borders of medical science thus improving health outcomes globally." From Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) is proud to partner with the newly established Strohm Foundation to fund cancer research. The Strohm Foundation evolved from the grass roots Three Strohm Sisters Family Foundation which primarily focused on funding breast cancer research. The Strohm Foundation supports research into all forms of the disease at the finest institutions in the world, including Long Island’s own Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Home to eight Nobel Prize winners, the private, nonprofit Laboratory has spurred prodigious breakthroughs in genetics, cancer, and neuroscience. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is committed to advancing vital research and remaining at the forefront of scientific discovery, steering progress, and leaving an enduring imprint on the world. Ed Strohm, the Strohm Foundation’s Executive Director, says “We view Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory as one of the finest institutions on the planet. We are extremely proud of our continuing relationship and are committed to helping CSHL continue to make scientific breakthroughs that benefit human beings everywhere. We consider CSHL one of the jewels in our network.” Bruce Stillman, CSHL’s President and CEO, echoed the sentiment, adding that the generosity of the Strohm Foundation “has truly made a difference, and we are proud to have the Strohm Foundation as a valued partner in our mission. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and achieving even greater milestones together.” The Strohm Foundation evolved from the grass roots organization Three Strohm Sisters Family Foundation that primarily focused on funding breast cancer research at one local institution.
With their continued growth the newly formed Strohm Foundation now funds cancer research, all forms of the disease, at only the finest institutions in the world not only here on Long Island but Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. The Stony Brook Cancer Center is proud to have the continued support of The Strohm Foundation. Edward J. Strohm, Executive Director of The Strohm Foundation recently joined us at The Stony Brook Cancer Center to present a donation. “We view Stony Brook as one of the finest institutions on the planet. We are extremely proud of our relationship and we are committed to helping Stony Brook continue to make scientific breakthroughs that benefit all human beings everywhere. We consider Stony Brook one of the anchors in our network.” Edward J. Strohm, who was previously VP of The Three Strohm Sisters Foundation has been a valued friend and partner to Stony Brook since 2008. He is currently a member of the Stony Brook Cancer Center Advancement Council and we are thrilled to have his expertise and guidance as we strive to obtain NCI designation for The Stony Brook Cancer Center. His passion for raising funds and awareness for cancer research is an essential part of his life’s work, which will only continue with his newly formed Strohm Foundation. In conclusion, The Stony Brook Cancer Center is on the cusp of a transformational cancer moment, with advanced technology, a state-of-the-art facility for research and clinical care, and a renewed national focus on the disease and we thank Edward for his commitment to our mission. |
