Our Heritage
The seeds and roots of The Strohm Foundation Ltd. were planted in the early 1990’s when Jane Stanczuk Strohm, Kathleen Sarna Strohm and Lucille Montrony Strohm, known collectively and colloquially as the Three Strohm Sisters, were all diagnosed with breast cancer. Seeking to spare others the pain and suffering caused by the disease, they became activists and then community organizers. Eventually, they became philanthropists when they established the Three Strohm Sisters Family Foundation in 1999.
Just as their personal efforts evolved over the years, so did the endeavors of the Three Strohm Sisters Family Foundation. Despite the deaths and retirements of the sisters, the mission continued as younger family members carried on their work. Gradually expanding from a locally focused, grass roots level, family directed non-profit it grew to be an internationally recognized entity composed of and supported by a diverse body of individuals, from around the world, in pursuit of the elimination of all forms of cancer.
As a result of this expansion, the name Strohm has become a byword for steadfastness in the fight against cancer as well as the concept of worldwide scientific collaboration toward that aim. As such, a new non-profit organization that was better equipped to navigate the complexity of the current time period and the changed complexion of the makeup of the organization was required.
Hence, The Strohm Foundation Ltd., inheritor of a noble tradition of service to humanity, imbued with a rich heritage of philanthropic stewardship and mandated with a mission to advance the borders of medical knowledge in pursuit of a world without cancer.
